FAQs - Travel

› Public transport is infrequent and expensive, how can I use it instead of my car?

What each of us can do is assess all of the options, use our imagination and be prepared to use a variety of different modes of transport.

There are many ways to travel; we can use buses, trains, taxis, we can lift share, car share, walk, cycle or rent a car. We can also assess the need to travel in the first place; by working locally, shopping online and taking holidays in Scotland. For example, we might walk our children to school, lift share once a week, work from home once a week, cycle when the weather is good, use a taxi with a group of friends for a night out, rent a car for our holidays and buy our food and clothes online.

› How do I start lift sharing?

Please use the following link to how you can start lift sharing www.stirlingliftshare.com

› How do I get more information about cycle to work?

Cycle to work is where your employer buys a bike for you to cycle to work and you pay it back in monthly instalments from your wage. Please take a look at www.cyclescheme.co.uk to find out more.

› What does "eco-driving" mean and how does it work?

Eco-driving means using your car as efficiently as possible so that you minimise fuel consumption and maximise savings! It's all about trying to drive smoothly, avoiding heavy braking or rapid acceleration and making sure that your car is properly serviced and in good condition.

The Energy Saving Trust figures suggest a good "eco-driver" can save £120 a year! Take a look at their website for further information.
