| Forth Valley Orchards Training Event - Fruit Tree Propagation by Grafting | 11am-3pm, Sat 4 Feb | Easter Poldar Farm, Stirling | The theory and practice of a range of grafting methods will be covered in this hands-on workshop, from creating new trees to rejuvenating and rescuing old ones. Participants may bring a scion of a fruit tree they wish to propagate, and rootstocks will be available. Bring a suitable knife – care of tools will be covered. Numbers limited. Refreshments available. The Forth Valley Orchard training events are FREE but residents of Clackmannanshire, Falkirk and Stirling areas will be given priority booking. | Eco Drive - Free Lesson | 8:30am-4:30pm, Sat 4 Feb | Keep Scotland Beautiful, Wallace House, Maxwell Place, Stirling | Going Carbon Neutral Stirling has secured 2 days of eco-drive training at Wallace house on Sat 21st of January and Sat 4th of February. We would like to invite you to join in and see what fuel and money you could save. The eco-drive is a free 1 hour interactive tutorial in a car adapted to accurately measure fuel consumption. For the first half of the lesson you will drive the way you normally drive, then the instructor will talk over some changes and ways to increase the efficiency of your driving. You will then get a chance to try the new techniques. The car measures the fuel consumption during each stage and you receive a certificate showing the fuel and money you can save in using your new skills. | Grow Forth - Local Food Summit | 10am-2pm, Sat 25 Feb | Albert Halls, Stirling | Low Carbon Stirling (a partnership between Stirling Council and Keep Scotland Beautiful's Going Carbon Neutral Stirling programme), is hosting Grow Forth! - a local food summit celebrating and connecting all the groups, organisations and individuals interested in local food projects, growing their own produce, minimising food waste, buying local and sustainability. This is your chance to meet others, to share knowledge and ideas and to be inspired! The event is being organised by Forth Environment Link. The summit will be highly interactive with inspirational talks and presentations on local projects and with local food to sample over lunch. There will be stands and stalls where you can find out about local food and related issues and how to get involved; there will also be themed discussions on a broad range of topics and great opportunities for idea sharing. | Seed Swap | 10am-4pm, Sat 3 Mar | Kilmartin House Museum, Argyll | Following on from the success of last year’s swap we will be holding another in the cafe on Saturday 3 March. We are again looking for donations of seeds, people willing to swap seeds and people wanting to grow but do not have any seed yet. Come with your saved seeds, surplus commercial seed, there’s nearly always more seed in a packet than you need, or left over viable seed from a previous year. Whether its vegetable or flower bring it along in packets labelled with the variety and either date collected or sow by date. Swap it and try something new or make a donation if you do not have anything to swap. There will be information about seed saving and heritage varieties. GCNS funding this will come to an end in March 2012. An opportunity will be given on March 8th to ascertain whether the CycleStirling community wishes to build on the successful work started this year. Do you have ideas for cycling in Stirling?
