Stirling University

Over the past year GCNS has been working closely with the University’s Carbon Management Committee and a number of exciting new projects are currently being launched.

Carbon League

Approx 40 student groups are competing in a carbon league to see which club/society can save the most carbon per person between November 2010 and May 2011. Each student group will work their way through a 10 action Carbon Cutter Plan over the course of the academic league. The Carbon League will be regularly updated and publicised in and round the university and the winning team will be announced at the university’s annual Clubs and Societies Awards in May 2011.

Carbon Detox

250 individual students are each undergoing a Carbon Detox this winter -hoping to shed a tonne in six easy months. Pledging to reduce their carbon footprint the students will tackle a range of actions from eating more seasonal food to reducing consumption. A nifty purse/wallet sized pledge card with details of all the actions, potential carbon savings and easy to use guides, including a seasonal food calendar and map of Stirling repair and second hand outlets, should hopefully keep everyone carbon counting. GCNS will be checking in with everyone at regular intervals and hopefully by the end of the Detox not only will their carbon footprints be smaller but they’ll be converts to low carbon living.

macrobert

The macrobert have agreed 8 different teams, from marketing to the bar staff, will begin Carbon Cutter Plans this autumn.
