Early years

The GCNS Carbon Cutter Plan (CCP) gives positive, practical information and advice on ways to cut carbon. GCNS involves children and staff in choosing monthly carbon reduction actions to be performed in the nursery/playgroup and at home. The actions are straightforward to do and will not only help slow climate change, but will also reduce pollution, help save money on fuel bills, minimise waste sent to landfill and help promote the personal health benefits of walking, cycling and eating local, seasonal food.

The CCP complements the Eco-schools programme with the carbon cutting actions spread across 7 of the 9 Environmental Topics. Schools will also build up documented evidence of action that could be used to support Eco-schools assessment. There are also clear links to the Curriculum for Excellence experiences and outcomes for Sciences, Social Sciences and Health and Wellbeing and the GCNS Carbon Cutter plan also encourages social responsibility and global citizenship.

How can we support you?

GCNS can:

  • deliver talks and workshops, on all areas of climate change and carbon reduction to staff, pupils and even the wider nursery/playgroup community
  • can help create Carbon Cutter Plans that really work with the needs of the organisation, its staff, pupils and community
  • facilitate connections with the wider community on sustainability issues
  • advise on infrastructural changes on-site that will reduce energy costs
