Simon Gooden

I was attracted to GCNS by the focus on people and communities. I'm very passionate about helping to improve Stirling, not just to avoid climate change but improve local transport, promote local produce and make houses warmer and cheaper to run.

My other passions are cooking, gardening, walking, football and walking my dog Muffin. I also love to travel around the UK (and the occasional ferry trip to the continent).

The communities I'm currently working in include Cambusbarron, Bannockburn, Plean, Cowie, Fallin and Causewayhead.

I have lived in Stirling on and off for the last 15 years, I love it here, its definitely home. I know lots of folk mainly because of years of working in the local Pub, I am a bit of a sociable soul, and this job is great, I used to talk about the price of beer and now I get to talk about the price of Carbon. My motto is "small is the new big". For me this means not only smaller carbon footprint but also smaller waistline, in theory by the time I have finished this job after all the cycling and vegetables eating I will be like super fit. Low carbon lifestyle it's the way forward, save the planet, save the waistline.

My Carbon Sin: What can I say chocolate, chocolate, chocolate flown from the far reaches of the world, I need help to combat my chocolate carbon miles.

My Carbon Redemption: I cycle all over the place now, and have turned into a rubbish geek, i.e. I get great pleasure out of making new things out of old stuff even if its completely useless.

The communities I currently work in include Cornton, Raploch, City Centre, Bridge of Allan and Dunblane.

A recent recruit to the GCNS team is Alan Rennie, who was until recently the editor of the Stirling Observer. Stirling-born Alan started in newspapers in 1969 and, after working in Perth, joined the Observer as chief reporter in 1979, becoming editor in 1983. During his editorship, the paper celebrated its 150th anniversary, achieved its highest-ever circulation figures and twice won Scottish local newspaper of the year awards. Married to retired teacher Mary, Alan stays at Kenningknowes Road, Stirling.
